I want to share some myths and untruths about emotional repressing, suppressing and escaping that you might not know about!  At one time or another we’ve all gotten the idea to shut down our emotions, but is that a good idea?

Myth #1–Apologize for crying or getting emotional. Many of us have learned to apologize for falling apart when we cry, as if human emotion is wrong or bad. Perish the thought that you might have an ugly cry because you’re feeling really emotional or in EMOTIONAL PAIN. Where does all that emotion go that you’re stuffing?  Read on!

Myth #2-Stuffing your emotions makes you strong and keeps you strong. You are perceived as strong. Who comes up with this stuff? There is nothing strong about stuffing emotions. It means you’re a master at shutting down! It does not make you strong.

Myth #3-Using different addiction avenues to shut down, shut off, and hide from feelings makes us a bad person. Coping mechanisms does not make you a bad person. It means you may have watched and learned some ineffective solutions as a child about how to cope with life. You may have found your own ineffective or detrimental ways to cope with anxiety and pain. What once might’ve been your only solution might now be a problem. What if there is a better way to deal with emotions and emotional upsets?

You are not alone if you developed a habit of shutting down, but is it healthy? When we stuff our emotions, they will find some avenue of expression. Do you notice that you have excessive reactions?  Do you have physical symptoms-sleep issues, digestive issues, or physical ailments & pains (including “replacement” issues)? Do you have illnesses, anxiety, or do you feel stuck? Any or all of these and many more “symptoms”, are ways that emotions will turn up the volume to get our attention saying LET ME OUT!

What if there is a better way to honor and release your emotions and upsets?  

In this audio, I share some info about repressing, suppressing and escaping your emotions. I have also included a little bit of tapping to release some of that resistance and discomfort of feeling feelings.
