When I am guiding a client in a session, I often hear concerns and questions wondering why we tap on negative statements. Because we hear about the power of our words, it is a valid question. Think of it this way. Would you put perfume on trash and expect the trash smell to go away? Of course not, because you have to clean up the trash first before you can truly enjoy and smell the perfume. It’s the same with tapping. When you tap on negative feelings, you are bringing up that “file” in your energy that is unpleasant and getting rid of it FIRST, and then you put in the positives with much more success.
If however, you are feeling joy, gratitude and happy about something, you can REINFORCE that mood so that your body knows what you truly want and desire. That is different from being in a negative emotion and trying to convince your body you are happy and feeling good when you’re not. You will have better results if you tap on releasing negative feelings when you feel them and reinforce happy feelings when you feel them. Working with your emotions will get you much farther than forcing what you don’t feel when you don’t feel it. Get in the flow of your feelings!
