It’s because of the many clients I’ve worked with that I know people can be master cover up artists of unhappiness. They are not trying to be deviant in any way, but they have learned how to shove down, cover up and look the other way at what is really going on in them. They work hard to convince others that they are thriving, happy and post all kinds of pictures to SHOW you what a great time they are having.

Here’s often the other side of the story. I’ve known many unhappy, down right unfulfilled clients show those pictures, and post those images of joy, joy, joy. For some, I’m sure those are “real”. For others I know it’s a cover up.

Do people think you are a happy person when your life is really an emotional mess?  Do you post those happy pictures on social media to convince yourself and others how happy you are?  Do you work to create images of having the time of your life? Do you keep yourself so busy so that others will “think” you are important while you seldom get to do what you want to do in life?

Let’s softly pull back the Oz curtain and see what’s really going on in you and others. I’ve been privileged to work with many people who refer their friends, family and acquaintances to me. I hear the REAL backstory of not knowing what to do or how to do it to change.  Think about this. Have you become just a set of memorized beliefs, emotions, and behaviors that have become your unconscious reactions and responses? I would suggest to you that the answer is YES.

On the outside, people can fake looking happy and even create that image.  Look at my pictures and how connected I am!  Look at how many texts and phone interruptions I get because I’m in demand and wanted. Meanwhile, they are such people pleasers that they never say no or honor their true feelings. This is not deceit, but more a learned method of coping, hiding, or not knowing how to change those patterns or behaviors that have them stuck!  Many people believe that if they don’t look at “it” (the pain), “it’s” not there. That couldn’t be further from the truth and I see those people in my office all the time!

People do the internal emotional work when shoved into great change, or when they’ve have hit a wall of crisis, tragedy or just plain old frustration.  Don’t wait for the health issue to scream at you, or the emptiness to become so great that it takes you down with depression. How can we apply life changes and make it easy to enjoy life now?   I guarantee that you will NOT outrun your energy, or be happy when you get this or that outcome if you can’t enjoy right now.

The moment life gets uncomfortable with change, many of us want to revert back to what’s familiar. It’s human nature to avoid something that’s perceived as painful or unfamiliar. That patterning of safety creates the unconscious grooves from a chemical reaction in the body to your thoughts, beliefs, and habits. However, when change is uncomfortable, it helps to give your brain new beliefs of how you WANT TO BE and FEEL.

While you do the inner work to release the old patterns, it is very helpful to install new connections and circuits in your brain, and body. Do you even know how you’d like your life to look?  Do you ever focus on how you’d like it to FEEL? Getting into the visual and the feeling of dreams is very powerful.  That’s what starts to reprogram your life!

I, personally, know what it’s like to be unable to get into the visualizing when so buried in grief, sadness and pain. It felt impossible for me to see much good in anything at one point in time. If that sounds familiar, then it will help to clear the pain with tapping first before trying to visualize what you want. Painful events don’t just dissolve on their own ,but you can help release them by acknowledging them and changing that energy. Then, when you try to visualize or feel the feelings you want to experience, there is room in the cleaned out space to accept the new images, beliefs and emotions.  You make room for the new when you tap out the old.

Of course, you can also stay in the cover up artist role, but isn’t that a lot of effort to convince yourself and everyone else that everything’s great…when it’s not?
