Are You Green with Envy & Anger About Their Success?

Does envy get the best of you?  Do you get angry when you see their success? If so, you are making a big mistake.  Don’t get angry and jealous of their success.  Watch what they do.  They are showing you what is possible!

As I talk about this topic, it is with the assumption that when you watch a successful person, their success is from a legal, and honest avenue.

I have to say that this is one of my pet peeves! When I was in sales, I often had the highest sales and I got some heat for being good at it.  It happened that way in a few different companies for me as well.  I was friends with other co-workers UNTIL I surpassed them.

I still remember my shock the first time it happened.  In nine months, I outperformed a five year veteran who was the highest producer.  She was NOT happy.  From that point on, I became the outsider, and the threat, and I was excluded.  We BOTH could’ve really excelled but instead, jealousy made our working hours distant and uncomfortable.

None of my peers were ever curious about how I did what I did.  They never watched or listened to my very successful cold calling process.  Nope.  They just got angry and jealous.

Not everyone will do the same job in the same way and not everyone will have success that looks the same.  There are clues about success, however, and you can tailor YOUR style by watching what is possible.

Are you paying attention to what they are doing that created their success or are you ranting about what THEY have–that you don’t?  Don’t be jealous.  PAY ATTENTION!  Success leaves clues.  Successful people step out and TAKE ACTION.  The unsuccessful sit back, watch, criticize…and get angry.   That doesn’t do anybody any good.

What are they doing that you could be doing?  What are you assuming that is incorrect?  Gosh, I’ve seen this happen with so many people in so many different ways.

How about the person who wants to write a book but when they see someone else publish a book, they get snarky and make comments such as,  I could’ve done a better job!  Well then…why didn’t you?

How about the person who doesn’t like their wage, but gets mad at the owner of the company instead of figuring out something that works better for him?  He doesn’t realize that the energy of being angry is actually blocking him from needed energy to find something better and more fulfilling.

How about a musician that steps out to contact a bar owner, sets up a jam session, and decides to have his core trio be the constant combo?  Other musicians are invited to join in, but because of the house trio, (drums, keyboards and bass) an outside drummer got upset that he couldn’t play with that particular jam.  Okay, so start your own somewhere else, haul your equipment to every gig, make sure you have plenty of songs to play (if no one joins in or suggests other songs), and take on the responsibility somewhere else.  There are plenty of other places to pursue.  Instead, this drummer got snarky and criticized the decision of having a house trio.

See what I mean?

Don’t let your jealousy or anger ruin you.  Let it help push you on to what you want.  If they are doing “it” and you aren’t, why not?  Your excuses will tell you exactly what the problem is.  Some people will take the risks, the action and get results.  Others will sit by, judge, criticize, and hate.  Such a shame.

I admire self-made, successful people.  I have the upmost respect for them, and if they are doing something I want to do, I watch them.  I listen to how they think and look for what they are doing that I’m not.  Then I tap on all the reasons why I can’t seem to do it too…until that energy clears and I too, accomplish my desires.

I always had a mantra when I was in sales.  If they can do it, so can I!!!  If someone ever questioned my ability, or didn’t think I would or could accomplish something, my internal voice would rise up silently inside and say “Watch Me”!  I would get internally challenged and fired up, but not against them.  I also got other pay offs in the process like much higher commissions and the joy of inner pride that accomplishment and achievement brought and still brings!  It is SWEET!

Don’t sit back with anger and envy.  Figure it out.  If you need to learn more, do it.  Success leaves clues all over the place.  Think outside the box, learn, listen and then take action.
